UGAstylerecently joined forces with BLVD Magazine & had the honor to hang out with the Modern Skirts. While in their midst, the Skirtsteased us with a few new tunes off their upcoming “untitled” album, sat down for a hilarious, but enlightening interview, & got their inner Fabio out for a style rich photoshoot displaying some of their freshest threads (oddly enough, none of the members wore skirts.)
<<<For your listening pleasure, UGAstyle had each of the guys compile a few songs they’ve had ringing in their ears as of late>>>

“I see it hangin’…hangin’ in the air, dancing in a hula skirt & a coconut brassiere. I wanna see the pie in the sky.”
Grabbing the ear with wit & grit: a two-man band making too much noise for two boys.
What began as a simple mission to make recordings of Matt Shat’s songs – which draw inspiration from spaghetti westerns, the sounds coming out of Memphis in the 50s & 60s, Henry Miller, and girls in French films – eventually morphed into Shathouse Rats. The soul punk music emanating from this two-headed monster is best described as garage rock soul birthed from a gnarly stew of Sun, Stax, and Goner records that was brewed by the spring reverb gods. The thick minimalism of the music (from the debut EP, Blood On Yer Shoes) is replete with small amps making monster sounds, vintage keys, and howling vocals awash in fuzzy reverb. The songs have been described as slurf-bop, soul-twang, trash, barberslop, and soul grease – also known as psychaholic-twang-stomp-stew. Whether you’re hanging in the air or dancing in a hula skirt with a coconut brassiere, come on through and get your slice of Shathouse Rats.
Matt Shat & Byronius Junk will be treking from Atlanta this Friday evening to grace Athens with a melodious manifestation of talent. The docket also entails tunes by Coco Rico followed by DJ Heartbeats & polishing off the wee hour grooves with DJ Noah Ray.
