-Simply stunning. Sofie, 19, has her sultry feather because her parents have always told her that “she has not one, but two angels guarding her” and it reminds her that she will always have someone watching her back.
-Talk aboutbrotherly love: Alanna (19) has a surprise under her shirt… get your mind out of the gutter and enjoy the beauty of her fluttering friend, aQuetzal- the national bird of Guatemala- a tribute to her adopted brothers.

You get a chuckle from David Cross? Enjoy chugging PBRs? Wear skinny jeans much? Do you have a flicker or tumblr account? You are actually used to not being invited to anything because it’s just a given that you know about it and you’ll be there. You work with bands and artists, but only the ones you feel like taking on. It’s Reading Day and you know you want to party, if only to be ironic. Well, get off your don’t give a shiznit self butt and go to the LATFH/Reading Day Festival, and look cool and feel cooler doing it.
-Look the part and get some vital nutrients via Rap Snacks, courtesy ofGig Worn -like these frickin hipsters (who had nothing cool enough to wear in their wardrobe, so they mentioned UGAstyle to get 25% off, and so can you!) You could get peeped by Gary (23, from Milledgeville, GA) courtesy of UHapsand then dance the night away to Misfortune 500hearthrob Chisolm (27, from Athens, GA)
-The mastermind behindYoung, Foxy & Free, the bassist of the legendary homegrown Pylon, and the creative genius that fuels progress in the tight-knit community of Athens- Michael Lachowski, teams up with UGA senior John (22, from Roswell, GA) to make you think outside the box and get you feelin’ a little bit frisky.
-Ladies tend to suffer for fashion, but not Caitlin (18, from Cumming, GA) who rests in her sweet Mary Janes. (All she needs is a baggy sweater and pleated skirt, and you got yourself some sweet Scooby Snacks!)
-If you can’t convince them, confuse them.

-Two roads diverged for Travis (20, from Alpharetta, GA) who can take either path in his choice of sunglasses at Kum’s Fashions. The Steve McQueenPersols or the Zach GalifianakisBluBlockers? Either way, the one he follows will result in a surge of confidence. (mention UGAstyle at Kum’s and get your top choice for 20% less than the regular price… cha-ching!)
Dad rock? Granola indie? Or a sound which echos something more? Ben Bridwell’s brigade of pastoral indie rockers sift through their Americana to unleash the hearts of gold lining their sleeves. With grandiose linguistic delivery that remains, somehow, scant of cheesiness, lines like “the world is such a wonderful place” and “watch how you treat every living soul,” will churn up sincere sentiments worth raising your lighter for. Painting painfully pretty melodies and an essence that eludes to sifting over a placid lake while a cold beer slides down your throat, the scene at the 40 Watt shall ease you into a stupor drowned in sound.
-Hmmmm, Lunch pail in hand, and all decked in yellow. Have we entered a new phase of construction site fashion?
- A penny saved is a penny earned. Katie (23, from Savannah, GA) and Landon (21, from Atlanta, GA) snagged some bank for their buck with these smart buys.
-Quick! Take cover! There is a furry creature attacking this girl!!!!!
Downtown Athens is a hive of activity: Welcome the 30th annual Twilight Criterium of Athens. No longer a single evening race, it has expanded to a weekend-long celebration of cycling…and in Athens, celebrations mean looking and feeling good.
-UGA senior Hunter Garrison is a member of Barley’s Elite Cycling team (Greenville, SC) and is also the President of the UGA Club Cycling Team. Suffice it to say, when it comes to bikes Hunter knows what he’s doing.
-Well, howdy outtatownies, welcome to the Classic City! Artist Kristen (27, from Atlanta, GA), along with UGA alum Andy (25, now from Washington, DC) brought Alexandra (26, from Washington, DC) to catch Twilight fever.
The illustrious sport of cycling has one of its biggest weekend in Athens, and you should be there to appreciate the many things it has to offer: live music, distinctly unhealthy food, bike polo, all-age events, BMX, and of course, the crit itself. Cheers to all and let the races begin!
- As a means of “growing up as an artist,” Andy Giannakakis embarked on a vagrant journey last week within the walls of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. The location itself is a paradox of sorts. While the infrastructure stands in direct opposition to Andy’s mission – to approach the expression in his art from an unacademic, untrained standpoint – it also bolsters the beacon of his craft. In Andy’s words, “art school is counter productive of being an artist.” In a sense, the formalities that it instills strips one’s mind of the ability to organically create void of the stigma of coloring within the lines. Potently defiant of this notion, Andy seeks to find out who he really is as an individual, & moreover as an artist, by approaching his paintbrush outside of the construct of rules. Though a risk that teeters at the ledge of uncertainty, he seeks to sieve through his own sensibility and unravel truth as best he can; in an epic and beautiful and ugly and lasting way.
In a non-stop, 24 hour guerilla painting session, Andy embraces questions about his own self sufficiency and the means through which he desires to embrace the world and depict the tangible manifestation of his thought; his art. By way of challenging both him self and his audience, Andy asserts that “the most important thing about art is letting people find different meanings for themselves.” By dismissing this confrontation with ones psyche, art becomes a simple product of easy consumption. In a sense, art too easy to understand ceases to be art. So, Andy paints in order to confront this challenge by the balls & explore the complexities of his mind while creating a labyrinth for onlookers to explore their own complexities through thought.
“The more technique you have, the less you have to worry about it. The more technique there is, the less there is.” – Picasso
By embracing the world through a visceral set of eyes, Andy, by means of his art, demonstrates an appetite for finding truths void of pretense, & quite frankly, the bull shit (excuse the french) that distracts most from the grasp of reality. By engaging inherent “emotion, fluidity, & feeling,” the ordinary becomes transcendent and points towards a greater truth.
- Well hello hello there, (professional) tiny dancer, Cory (20, from Athens, GA) has got some mad skillz in the flexibility department. When you are freaking talented and look good doing it, go ahead and be a show off.
-How do you make a portrait of an adorable puppy one degree cuter? Stick Nona (24, from Athens, GA) right next to it, duh. Too bad this bride-to-be is off the market, cause she balances working at one of UGAstyle’s top pick boutique’s – Dynamite, serving up your fish tacos at Taqueria Del Sol, studying math at UGA, all while looking sexy and stylish. A rarity!

About three weeks ago, the UGAstyle team danced our little hearts out to Sweedish, electropop band, Miike Snow, at the Masquerade in Atlanta. Yes, Miike Snow is a band and not just one guy. Haven’t heard of them? If you’re an avid Jimmy Kimmel, Gossip Girl, or Pretty Much Amazing fan, you’ve heard ‘em. And who hasn’t heard “Toxic” by Britney Spears? Well, the Grammy-award-winning, production duo behind “Toxic” are members of Miike Snow. If you’re still lost (and even if you’re not), get acquainted:
(By the way, the show was originally set to be in Hell, the smallest space within the venue, but unexpected demand for tickets by eager masses persuaded the Masquerade to move things up to a larger and more Heavenlyaffair.)
The guys came out sporting full faced white masks, setting the tone for the night. There was something special in the air as a mad rad performance commenced.
Andrew Wyatt: lead singer and songwriter
Production duo: Bloodshy & Avant
The set was a perfect blend of original tracks off their self titled debut album, freestyle DJing and a psychedelic light show. This menage a trois made for a live performance that made our toes tingle & hearts pitter-patter. UGAstylecouldn’t have asked for more – killing three birds with one stone, we were thoroughly delighted by the concert, DJ performance and thus the dance party that ensued.
During the opening band, Deloreon, UGAstyle spotted lead singer Andrew Wyatt modestly sitting in the back. Of course, we had to go up to chit chat and snag a photo.
- Andrew (of Miike Snow) kicks back cool at the Masquerade in Atlanta. Though he sports a mask when hitting the stage, his everyday diggs are void of any disguise or mystery; strait forward and simple with a splash of rock and roll.

Make sure to catch these guys live soon because they are destined for greatness. If you’re going to Bonnaroo this year, you’re in luck – they’ll be there.
