Young folks waited all week long for the Williamsburg “Pool Party” last Sunday featuring popular bands like the Black Lips, Health, and You Will Know Us By Trail of Dead. The term “Pool Party” is a bit of a misnomer here since no pools were involved; the event is actually a huge free concert on the East River looking over Manhattan. Although a few swimsuits still made an appearance, some of Brooklyn’s most stylish dressed to impress despite the smoldering heat and impending thunderstorm.

Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, but this girl prefers to wear hers front and center. She probably got some dude’s heart pumping in this white-hot ensemble.

I found these two girls looking adorable while sitting on concrete hot enough to fry an egg. They kept their cool in airy florals with comfortable leather flats perfect for dancing under the sun.

I stopped to capture this girl’s chic outfit, but I was even more impressed by her sunny disposition while dark clouds loomed overhead. It’s almost as if she coordinated her outfit to the storm clouds. Now that’s dedication.

American Apparel’s “Legalize Gay” t-shirts are striking controversy in Washington, D.C. The t-shirt in question is printed with the words “Legalize Gay.” The Los Angeles-based clothing company designed the shirt after the passage of Proposition 8 last year which stripped gay and lesbian couples of the right to marry in the state of California. The T-shirt was meant to be a sign of support for gay and lesbian employees and customers.
Kudos to American Apparel for standing its ground and refuses to remove the shirts from storefronts. So stay in fashion: keep an open mind.

John Galliano found inspiration for his Hermès Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear collection from the flying aces of yesteryear. Masculine tailored suits, aviator goggles, and leather jumpsuits were some of the main features of this aeronautical runway show. Each piece was exquisitely crafted from the leather and textiles that Hermès is known for. Although some thought that Galliano went a little overboard with the aviation theme, I think there was much more to his inspiration. Below you will find how some cinema stars (and Amelia Earhart) could have influenced this killer collection. Now if only you could fit all your flight gear in a Birkin bag…

No, this isn’t a new term for Twitter fans. We’re talking about falling in love Bambi style. My inner child was doing cartwheels when I saw Stella McCartney’s F/W 09.10 ad campaign featuring the world’s most famous deer and a few of his furry friends. Shot by Ryan McGinley, these ads are a fanciful mix of wildlife and fierce fashions from one of our favorite designers. “I’m a huge Bambi fan, and the film reminds me of my mum,” Stella told WWD. Although Bambi would probably object, you probably can’t avoid being a bit “twitterpated” and nostalgic with this fun campaign.

The hipster mecca Williamsburg located in Brooklyn is home of many beautiful and artistic people, although most of them look like moving, breathing Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads. I was lucky to find this blond beauty (Ashlyn, 21) getting on the subway looking fly and original at 9am (what a triumph!). Her girly hues were a stark contrast to the dreary subway surroundings. I love her ability to mix multiple shades of pink with interesting accessories. I also applaud her ability to stick out in a town full of indie fashion lovers. Now if only I could look so beautiful in the morning…

Surely it is no question why Marty’s last name is McFly. It is entertaining to see the viewpoint the predicted futurist clothing from 1985. Even though Doc is given credit for the invention of time travel, I believe Marty McFly deserves credit for making the future of style look promising. Stroll around Twin Pines Mall and cruise in your DeLorean in some super dope McFly threads:

Gadget, the bumbling inspector may be a clumsy fella with style way on the back burner, but he is the forerunner of function over fashion. Doubtfully a Burberry classic, he manages to hide nick-nacks, gizmos and gadgets of every shape and form to help him escape danger. He attempts to solve crimes while fighting the evil doings of Dr. Claw. With his faithful companion Brain, intellectual niece Penny, and his trusty gadgets he manages to foil yet another one of the M.A.D.’s schemes. Check out some of his noteable gadgets that are worthy of trickling into mainstream fashion:

Left: Gadget ‘Copter: Helicopter propeller blades that come out of his hat that enable him to fly. Gadget has a second, “Spare” unit available in the event of failure.
Right: Gadget Coat: His trench coat inflates when he pulls one of its buttons and enables him to float — in water or in the sky. It is almost always deflated by being punctured, causing him to shoot through the sky as the air is released before falling from a great height.
Other handy-dandy gadgets that should seriously be gracing our wardrobes:
Gadget Skates: Roller skates come out of the bottom of his shoes. He is often very clumsy and struggles to keep his balance on the skates. Later in the series, he tries adding his own modifications in the form of rockets that come out from the sides. These have even more glitches than most of his gadgets for their first few appearances.
Gadget Refridge-a-Gadget: A gloved hand holding an unmarked aerosol can appears out of his hat and sprays a substance that immediately reduces the surrounding area to subzero temperatures.

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t give another small dedication to the blonde bombshell that inspired girls to feather their hair: the one and only Farrah Fawcett. From the second she said “Good morning Charlie!” we were smitten by her surfer girl style. Girls around the world emulated her super tan skin and perfect coiffure, and her infamous pin-up poster (pictured above) sold a record shattering 12 million copies. Here are just a few pictures to remember why we love her. No matter what she wore, she wore it well.
