Do you like David Bowie? Do you like celebrity heads superimposed on other peoples’ bodies? Then you might enjoy my new Tumblr site Bowie’s In Space. It may not have as much fashion content as this site does, but it sure does have a hell of a lot of Bowie.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been a whole year since Michael Jackson’s death. Even though he’s gone, there’s no doubt that his style will live forever. In honor of his love of all things shiney, sparkly, and avant-garde, I’ve put together a collection of items to mimic two of his iconic looks.
It also seems fitting to post famed photographer David LaChapelle’s epic tribute to the King of Pop, one in a series of religious-themed portraits of the artist. (I was recently surprised to find out that the MJ in these picture is just a look-a-like.) LaChapelle once told The Times:
“I don’t think he was capable of hurting anyone. I think there’s something really biblical about what happened. His lyrics are so naive and so beautiful. It’s one of the most epic stories of our time, to go from such heights to such depths. He’s a modern-day martyr.”
I couldn’t resist being one of the many people to post this amazing video of Christopher Walken singing Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” Why? Because he’s Christopher Walken, that’s why.
Here is your second serving of her royal Gaganess. In the words of the Lady herself, “Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger.” What does that mean? Who the hell knows- just enjoy this visual stimulation and remember to keep being a free bitch, baby.
Come on, Vogue!
Gaga, oh Gaga, let down your hair (dress)
She’s a lean, mean, samurai hat-wearing dancing machine
It’s no secret- I adore Lady Gaga, and I can never get enough of her awe-inspiring outfits. From disco bras to Kermit jackets, the lady has done it all while simultaneously walking the line of utterly insane and impeccably stylish with finesse. I’ve wanted to do a fun post that showcases some of her most interesting outfits for some time. Turns out I couldn’t fit them all into one decent-sized post, so this will be a two-part series. Love them or hate them, it’s hard not to be amused by these images. Kids, don’t try this at home…
Lady Gaga, you’re the one, you make bath time lots of fun…..
We just can’t keep up with these paralleling fashion careers. Veik, a 29-year-old Barbie enthusiast from Beijing, has updated the doll to channel THE ultimate style icon right now. He recreates Miss Gaga’s most memorable outfits and shrinks them to 11.5 inches. From the Bad Romance Alexander McQueen high heels from hell to Jean-Charles Castelbajac’s Kermit creation, Barbie will make us all want to Just Dance.
Those were the words sung by beloved Athens band Of Montreal at Refinery29’s fashion week bash as hundreds of style-obsessed fans danced along at Santos Party House in Manhattan. Always coming up with interesting new looks, Of Montreal didn’t disappoint us with their fashion week attire.
Lead singer and overall creative mastermind Kevin Barnes showed off his glam rock taste in sparkling blue eye makeup, a military style jacket, and one of the biggest trends of the season: over-the-knee boots. Only the talented Mr. Barnes can look this good wearing multiple shades of powder blue. The guitarist on the right looks like he raided Steven Tyler and Sonny Bono’s closets, but it was an excellent match for the psychedelic stage background.
Groups of bizarrely costumed dancers accompanied the band including this mysterious character, who jumped on stage dressed in a black body suit with only a crystallized eye covering midway through the show. After a week of witnessing eccentric fashion, this ensemble didn’t seem that out of the ordinary. If this chick thinks that she’s suffering for fashion, she should try dancing around in five inch heels!
The dawning of the Age of Aquarius ushered in some far out fashion. Hippies, with their carefree spirit and rebellious energy, introduced a new generation of free-thinking, independent-minded stylish people. Fortunately for stale dress of the early 20th century, the colorful bohemian fashion had lasting power. August 15 marks the 40th anniversary of one of the most historical events in rock and roll fashion. In honor of the Aquarian Exposition, explore your inner flower child and wear your grooviest of threads. Far out!

August 1, 1981: A new generation is born and fashion changes forever. Music Television has exposed fashion to the masses for over two decades and continues to be an influential part of pop culture. Tons of style can be attributed to the TV station including 80’s hair metal, hip-hop from Yo! MTV Rap, Michael Jackson’s look, and even those cheesy boy band outfits. So, happy birthday to the father of putting style to the sound. Music Television, you’ve broken color barriers, created social change, and made moon men a style icon… you are one uber-established twenty-something.
The white glove, the sparkles, the suits… and yes, even the change of skin color. There are are hardly words to describe MJ’s impact on fashion. Although his death was a huge and painful shock, it has given us all a moment to stop and think about his many great accomplishments. He will forever be remembered as being a true icon and innovator in music, dance, and fashion.
This small post cannot do a bit of justice for the decades of style influence of the King of Pop. We would like to share our top 10 (in no particular order) favorite looks from his very long career.
1. The young heartthrob
2. The King of Pop
